I feel like the word satisfying is really powerful when speaking about romance. Ultimately you walk into a story with a list of wants and personal biases and if the author misses on those it can take you out of the story.Eliot’s books are my quintessential satisfying reads. She delivers consistently on my preferences and creates fun and complicated characters to root for as they come together and fall in love.Linden is a beautiful and sweet and cheerful I picture a deredere anime boy, but ultimately brave and selfless. Callum is a cold methodical contract killer disconnected from empathy but ultimately honorable and heroic. I feel like In another author’s hands Linden would be a doormat and a total woobie, and Callum an unlikeable a-hole but she crafts them to be 3 dimensional complex characters while still delivering on tropes and character archetypes that I find to be my own personal catnip.Bonus points that there’s a subtle secondary couple in Oskar and Kaspar. Both are great supporting characters I loved how Callum and Oskar had an accord after some grudging hostility.So yeah satisfying read. 😊 I'm not really fond of themed stories with multiple authors so the only reason I chose this book was that I really like the author and was intrigued by the storyline. This story was so unusual and imaginative, I was hooked almost at once and could barely put it down (and did so only to sleep). While it's hard to like a hitman character, Callum really drew me in and I was glad to see that he did have some integrity, whether he wanted it or not. Linden, of course, was a great, lovable character and I liked them as a couple. I also liked the romance and the other characters. Well done!
